ISHR joins campaign on Indigenous women

In May 2018 the Indigenous Peoples Rights Program joined the campaign that aims at making Indigenous Women visible.

There are approximately 185 million Indigenous women in the world, belonging to more than 5,000 different Indigenous peoples. Despite the broad international consensus about the important role Indigenous women play in eradicating hunger and malnutrition, there are still limitations in the recognition and exercise of their rights.

We are excited to announce “Indigenous Youth: Through Their Eyes”, a book collaboration between the UN Global Indigenous Youth Caucus and Columbia University's Institute for the Study of Human Rights, coming in 2019. The book will be edited by Elsa Stamatopoulou, Director of the Indigenous Peoples Rights Program, along with Dali Angel and Victor Lopez-Carmen, two members of the UN Global Indigenous Youth Caucus.

As the founder and executive director of Most Mira (Bridge of Peace), Kemal Pervanić is dedicated to bringing youth of different ethnic backgrounds together, fostering compassion, unity, and understanding through art. Pervanić started Most Mira upon his return to Bosnia-Hercegovina, his native country, from which he had fled 10 years prior after being held in a two concentration camps, one being the notorious Omarska.
