Earth Politics and the Plurinational State in Bolivia

Professor Ari Chachaki will explore the background of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, in particular the relationship between social movements, the state, and the global context in the construction of equality and diversity in the country. The lecture will address the case of the Alcaldes Mayores Particulares (AMP) in the first half of the twentieth century, then explore the transformation of this Earth Politics as activists confronted, agrarian reform, the Bolivian Revolution of 1952, militarism and racism, to end with an evaluation of a new version of Earth Politics and its relevance to the emergence of the Plurinational State, for the Andes and the Americas.
