The Taliban Takeover: Women's Rights and the Humanitarian Catastrophe in Afghanistan

This panel aims to bring together human rights activists, professionals, and students for a discussion on the future of Afghan women’s rights in the aftermath of the Taliban takeover. The panelists will examine the current state of women's rights in the country and discuss the impact of a growing humanitarian emergency that threatens to further undermine these rights. They will share their perspectives on ways to build effective activism and discuss some of the urgent steps needed from the international community and human rights stakeholders for the realization of women's rights in Afghanistan.

  • Amb. Melanne Verveer, Executive Director of the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace, and Security.
