Columbia ISHR’s Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Indigenous Peoples’ Rights completed a successful life cycle of two years and two months

The Massive Open Online Course on Indigenous Peoples’ Rights prepared by the Institute for the Study of Human Rights (ISHR) just completed more than two years of life (November 2020 to January 2023). The course was created by the Institute for the Study of Human Rights in collaboration with Indigenous experts from around the world as well as Columbia’s CTL (Center for Teaching and Learning) team. The Provost's Office awarded ISHR funding to create the MOOC.

2nd HRAP Alum Wins Martin Ennals Prize

ISHR congratulates 1999 HRAP Advocate Delphine Djiraibé of Chad on winning the 2023 Martin Ennals Award. Delphine shares the award with jailed Kashmiri rights activist Khurram Parvez and Feliciano Reyna, a rights activist from Venezuela.

Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut will meet Secretary Antony Blinken today to discuss worsening relations between Turkey and the United States. Over three decades of interacting with Turkish officials, I have seen how Turkey deftly feigns cooperation to maintain its corrupt autocratic regime. No beating around the bush with Cavusoglu. Bilateral relations require transparency, especially when addressing sensitive subjects.

2023 Human Rights Essay Contest

ISHR is pleased to announce the 2023 Human Rights Essay Contest. The contest aims to encourage and acknowledge students who have written exceptional academic papers that address issues related to human rights. Cash prizes will be awarded to two graduate students and to two undergraduate students. Contest winners, along with other selected participants, may be invited to present their essay at an ISHR event.
