Columbia Community Marks Indigenous Peoples' Day

Friday, January 8, 2016
Columbia community marked Indigenous Peoples' Day on October 12th, 2015.

Organized by the Native American Council, Indigenous Peoples' Day was celebrated on campus by students and faculty. Participants were asked to share their thoughts about officially proclaiming October 12th as Indigenous Peoples' Day--an effort by Native Americans around the country. Among the issues raised around the table on College Walk was the request to place a plaque on Columbia University grounds recognizing that our university has been built on traditional Lenape territory. The day's celebration ended with a cultural event.

Congratulations to all!
