HRAP Alumnus Receives 2017 ABA International Human Rights Award

Monday, August 21, 2017

Congratulations to Patricia Guerrero, a 2003 Human Rights Advocates Program (HRAP) alumnus, on receiving the American Bar Association International Human Rights Award. Guerrero was recognized for her extensive work in Colombia defending victioms of sexual violence and women displaced by Colombia's armed conflict.

Guerrero is the founder and director of Liga de Mujeres Desplazadas (LMD) an independent, nonprofit organization that advocates for the restitution of the fundamental rights which displaced women do not have because of the armed conflict in Colombia.

Guerrero, a lawyer and former judge, represents LMD in front of the Inter American Commission on Human Rights and the Colombian Government. Her relentless legal advocacy on behalf of the rights of Colombian women takes place both at the national and international levels.

The ABA International Human Rights Award was established to honor and give public recognition to an individual or an entity that has made an exceptional contribution to the advancement of human rights outside of the United States.
