ISHR is looking for a Columbia University student project assistant to support the  U.S. African American Racial Redress Network: Local Activism and the Pursuit of Racial Justice -  an innovative model for scholars and advocates to further groundbreaking work in activism and to promote redress for U.S. historical racial injustices by undertaking and facilitating interdisciplinary research, capacity-building, education, and advocacy. The project is a collaboration between Columbia University’s Institute for the Study of Human Rights and Howard University’s Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights Center (TMCRC). 

The Project manager assistant will provide research and management support to the project manager to assure a sound data management system and adherence to research standards. The Project manager assistant will provide oversight to several student volunteers groups to assure completion of tasks in a timely manner. The Project manager will also support grant writing and network communications and outreach. Other tasks relevant to this project may develop as the project progresses.
 
Skills: Project management, research, and data analysis skills, Proficient Microsoft excel, Microsoft office. Database management. Excellent writing skills. Report and grant writing experience preferred. Experience with web design and ArcGIS preferred. Expertise in African American U.S. history preferred. Team player. 
 
Job Responsibilities: Responsibilities may include: project management; data collection (web-based), data entry, data management, basic statistical analyses, oversight of student researchers, website design, ArcGIS mapping, review of technology applications for accuracy, grant writing, communications support

Hours per week: 15
 
Period: Starting January 11th - May 31 2020 with the possibility of an extension
 
Compensation rate: $20/hour
