Kenedy the Knowledge, Evaluation and Learning Officer at UHAI, the Eastern Africa Sexual Health and Rights Initiative. UHAI is the first indigenous and participatory African fund for Sexual and Gender Minorities and Sex Workers of Eastern Africa, and with over a decade of experience in the region.
Kenedy is passionate about human rights and social justice and is a firm believer of equality of all humans. He has over 10 years experience in the sector having worked with different Sexual and Gender Minorities and Sex Worker organizations and networks in the region, both in social justice, behavioral research for the key and vulnerable populations (KVPs), organizational development (OD), and has served in various governance bodies for nonprofit organizations in Kenya. Kenedy says "When I was at HRAP, I was training myself to lead the work of human rights, but only two years after I left the program, I am leading thought leadership on funding for structurally silenced communities, specifically; LGBTIQ+, Sex Workers and PWUDs across the myriad of intersectionalities that exists. I work for a fund, and I help them in making sense of the progress and changes the work is contributing to at micro and meta levels. I help UHAI shape her strategy and with it, the impact of our politic and resourcing."
Regarding how HRAP influenced his work, Kenedy says "The classes and conversations we took, all has made sense to my understanding of intersectionality in the work that we do. I was an LGBTIQ human rights defender, and yet I interacted with so many who were from different fields and those whose work is human rights but not specifically; making this connections affords me a sustainably nuanced strategy to address the harms and inequalities that exist."
Kenedy is an alumni and active member of the East African Human Rights Training Program (EAHRTP) – an affiliate of Equitas. He has studied Sociology and Political science and also holds a diploma in Project Planning and Management from the University of Nairobi in Kenya and another in Monitoring and Evaluation from Amref International University.
