Abstract

A literary criticism is presented of the novel "Reservation Blues," by Sherman Alexie. Emphasis is given to the appropriation and representation of the musical genre of blues in the context of Native American identity. Topics discussed include the blues as a form of storytelling, Native American collective memory, and the use of musical repetition of stanzas in character dialogue.
