| Abstract | The article discusses transitional justice to address human rights violations and state-sponsored terrorism in Brazil during the period of military rule from 1964 and 1985. It comments on Brazil's Amnesty Law of 1979, the payment of reparations in 1995, and the formation of a National Truth Commission in 2011. The author provides an overview of the period of military rule, examines the transition to democratic governance, and explores the topics of collective suffering and historical amnesia. Political disappearances are also addressed.
