Abstract

The article explores notions of ethnic and group identity in south-east central Africa by using a case study of the Anglo-Africans, the group of racially mixed people of European and African descent, in colonial Malawi which was formerly known as Nyasaland. Some of the subjects explored include the origins of the group's identity, the history of political rights extended to the group, collective memory, and kinship.
