Abstract | Presents materials of a 'Round table' discussion aimed at basic research yields resulting from two studies of historical memories inherent for Russians (Soviet citizens) done with a ten-year interval in 1990 and 2001. Both studies involved popular memories of remote and not so remote history of the country, of memorable events, persons and social processes. Issues of historical memory, of historical consciousness making and state role in the latter process were focal points of the discussion. Recent Russian history, current social transformations with ensuing losses and acquisitions, as reflected in popular memories, were another central aspect of the discussion with participation of scholars mainly from the Academy of the State service, Office of the Russian Federation President.
