Abstract

The article explores the representation of Remembrance Day, an annual Canadian commemorative event, in curriculum documents, a national government guide and alternative non-governmental resources. The authors believe that official war remembrance in the country is too often militarized and masculinized. They suggest to problematize the reproduction of collective memory every Remembrance Day in order to help Canadian students become critical citizens. The article also features an educational program administered by Veterans Affairs Canada.
