Abstract | The article discusses the history of biography in Brazil focusing on Supreme courts declaration for prior authorization before publishing biographies dealing with a set of of civil laws and constitutional norms impacting the legitimacy of a biographic work. Topics include return of democracy in Brazil, end of austere censorship on the media, cultural and artistic manifestations, and legal battles around the case of Estrela Solitária: Um Brasileiro Chamado Garrincha by Ruy Castro.
