| Abstract | The article considers the history of military occupations of France in the nineteenth century, focusing in particular on the 1815-1818 occupation of France following the Napoleonic Wars, and the 1870-1871 occupation of France by Prussian forces during the Franco-Prussian War. Topics explored include the historiography of France's military history, collective memory and nationalism, and the political and cultural aspects of national history. |
