Abstract

The article discusses Argentina and how the nation remembers its history of state terrorism. The Buenos Aires Escuela de Mecánica de la Armada (ESMA) is to become a memorial. A history is provided of the takeover by a military junta in March 1976, marking the beginning of the centros clandestinos de detención (CCD) death camps. The views of the organization Hijos por la Identidad, la Justice, contra el Olvido y el Silencio (HIJOS) on the preservation of death camp sites is discussed.
