Abstract | The article analyzes the initiatives of the Tutelo Indians of Grand River, Ontario, in defending a unique ethnic identity amid the Hodenosaunee or Great League of the Iroquois Indians. The analysis is based on a correspondence between Samuel Johns, a Native American and Frank G. Speck, anthropologist at the University of Pennsylvania, that took place during the years 1934 and 1935. |
