Abstract

The article presents a nostalgia on the experience of European Jewry in Vienna, Austria. It cites the wave of interest in "fin-de-siécle Vienna" which is one major source of modern culture and thought that fueled the interest of the nostalgia for old Vienna. It also cites a brief history of Vienna, which was known politically for two things. Before 1914, it was the capital of a state in which irreconcilable conflict and dysfunctional representative government were the norm, and it held the title of being the only capital city in Europe with an antisemitic party running the municipal government.
