Congratulations to 2014 graduate Saranya Misra, who was recently appointed as Communications Officer at UNICEF New York’s Division of Communications.
Misra graduated from Columbia University with a Master’s Degree in Human Rights Studies in May 2014. Her thesis focused on Political Activism through Social Media, including a comparative analysis of the topic across the Middle East and North Africa, South Asia, and China.
Misra presented on the importance of Social Media at the 2014 United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) “Shaping the State Through the Social Contract” conference in Glen Cove, NY, and has been published in several online publications, including Elite Daily.
Misra earned a business certificate from Columbia Business School and completed a second M.A. from Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism, where she collaborated with journalists from the New York Times, ProPublica, and Columbia Journalism Review. She has also worked at Amnesty International, UNDP, the Tory Burch Foundation, UNICEF Innovation, and (RED).
While at UNICEF, Misra aims to continue her focus on communication for development and the role of digital media in the global human rights landscape.
