Columbia community marked Indigenous Peoples' Day on October 12th, 2015.
Organized by the Native American Council
, Indigenous Peoples' Day was celebrated on campus by students and faculty. Participants were asked to share their thoughts about officially proclaiming October 12th as Indigenous Peoples' Day--an effort by Native Americans around the country. Among the issues raised around the table on College Walk was the request to place a plaque on Columbia University grounds recognizing that our university has been built on traditional Lenape territory. The day's celebration ended with a cultural event.
Congratulations to all!
