The Incite Institute at Columbia University awarded the Hard Questions Grant to Dr. Shourideh C. Molavi, Senior Lecturer in Human Rights and Director of Graduate Studies at the Institute for the Study of Human Rights for her project “Visual and Spatial Methods in Human Rights Research.”
According to the Incite Institute, the Hard Questions Grant is a way to provide seed grants for bold projects that use untested methods, unlikely data collection or unexpected analyses.
Dr. Molavi says: “This project examines counter-forensic works addressing how communities process generational trauma, and which combine human rights research with innovative visual and spatial methods. Examining approaches to the visualization of historical memory in Palestine between 1947 and 1949, the study examines the politics of research that maps the physical and environmental traces of violence that remain in landscapes today.”
