David L. Phillips, Director of the Program on Peace-building and Human Rights, gave a memorial lecture for Elie Wiesel at Emmanuel College in Boston, Massachusetts on September 28th, 2016.
Elie Wiesel was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1986. The Nobel Committee called him a "messenger to mankind." According to the Committee: Wiesel was recognized for his writing and "practical work in the cause of peace." He delivered a message "of peace, atonement and human dignity" to humanity.
Elie Wiesel passed away on July 2, 2016. The lecture was delivered the day before Elie Wiesel's 88th birthday -- were he living.
Phillips was executive Director of the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity between 2001 and 2004.
