Belinda Cooper (Adjunct Assistant Professor at ISHR) was invited to Leipzig, Germany, to participate in celebrations of the 35th anniversary of a major demonstration there on October 9, 1989 that laid the groundwork for the fall of the Berlin Wall a month later. During her visit, she took part in a panel discussion on clandestine cooperation between West German journalists and East German activists, had an article about her published in a major regional newspaper, and attended an event with the German Chancellor and other prominent political figures. Cooper personally participated in the 1989 demonstration; she lived in West Berlin at the time and worked extensively with East German dissidents.
