In a new RightsViews article, graduate student Rachel Riegelhaupt examines the lack of media coverage for the historic March of Hope, a 200 km peace march across Israel by Israeli and Palestinian women. The March of Hope will officially culminate on Wednesday October 19th and tens of thousands of women are expected to join on the final day in Jerusalem.
Riegelhaupt examines the trend of international media ignoring nonviolent protests in the Israel-Palestine context and looks at how the ignoring of nonviolent movements by media outlets can promote violent alternatives.
Rachel Riegelhaupt is an M.A. candidate in Human Rights Studies at Columbia University. Her research focuses primarily on women in armed conflict, corporate responsibility in conflict zones, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
