DW News interviewed 2009 Advocate Mary Akrami of the Afghan Women Skills Development Center while she was attending a meeting of the EU Afghanistan Peace Support Mechanism in Brussels. The purpose of the mechanism is to provide a flexible and quick responding instrument to support efforts for an inclusive Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process. In 2003, the Afghan Women Skills Development Center opened the first women's shelter in Kabul.
