In honor of the 30th anniversary of the Human Rights Advocates Program (HRAP), the Institute for the Study of Human Rights (ISHR) has organized a photo exhibit featuring 30 HRAP alumni.

1994 Advocate Samuel Kofi Woods II of Liberia took time out of his trip to the USA to meet participants in the 2019 HRAP. He spoke with the advocates about his journey as a human rights advocate, including his unrelenting focus on the need to maintain his integrity in all that he does. Woods is a Liberian journalist, academic, activist, and politician. He began his activism as the student president of his university and a leader of the national student organization in 1986.

2019 Advocates Charbonnel Nodjigoto of Chad and Mariano Ruiz of Argentina spoke about issues facing refugees in their respective countries. Prof. Lara Nettlefield moderated the talk which was attended by 12 students and sponsored by IAS and ISHR.

2019 Advocate Ying Xin contributed to the article "Discrimination against LGBT populations in China," which appears in the September 2019 edition of The Lancet. Ying is the Executive Director of the LGBT Beijing Center.

2005 Advocate Alejandra Ancheita has been awarded an honorary PhD from the University of Paris Nanterre. In her acceptance speech, she said, “In a context like Mexico where violence has become part of the landscape, sometimes the most difficult thing is to defend joy and protect hope. However, we cannot settle, now or never, with this imposition. Fear cannot become the basic premise of our lives.” Alejandra is the founder and Executive Director of the Mexico City-based ProDESC (The Project of Economic, Cultural, and Social Rights).
