Professor Bruce Cronin presented his new book “Purging the Odious Scourge of Atrocities: The Limits of Consent in International Law” at an event at City College on Wednesday, November 29. The event had commentary by Ruti Teitel (New York Law School) and Dirk Moses (City College of New York). The book explores the growth of a small body of human rights law that prohibits the use of violence by a state against its own population when it is deemed a mass atrocity. The rules are binding on all states regardless of whether they have given their consent by signing treaties or acknowledging common practice.
