During the month of December, StoryCorps is featuring an interview with 2021-22 Advocate Dominique St. Vil (left) of Haiti. Dominique is the Executive Director and Administrative Director of OTRAH (Organisation Trans d’Haïti). Over the past 10 years, HRAP participants have been learning about oral history from StoryCorps. Many have chosen to accept the organization's offer to record their stories.
During the interview, Dominique discusses what being an activist means for him. He says "I fit right in, it was always what I wanted to do and it is like I didn't have any purpose before and there it was." He also talks about when his trans advocacy group, OTRAH (Organisation Trans d’Haiti) became its own organization. Dominique says, "One of the happiest moments (of being an activist) is when I finally got to the place where it was not a dream anymore, it was a reality. It is still in the making but it is real, it is not something I'm talking about, it is not a project, it is there."
