Abstract

In post-Soviet Cuban state discourse, things are done for the Revolution and la patria rather than for the building of socialism. This repatriotization of revolutionary ideology does not imply a total wiping of the state of socialist political ideology, but even when the message to be conveyed is based on socialist ideology it is constructed around a patriotic dimension. Landscape serves as a mnemonic device for perpetuating a particular historical memory—a way of remembering the past and of using this remembrance to fuel the present and preserve the future of the Revolution.
