Abstract

The article talks about the era of authoritarianism in Latin America, from 1954 to 1990. Historians contribute to the construction of interpretations of Latin American authoritarianism, its aftermath and how it is perceived in social memory. The book "Violence Workers," which illustrated both the strengths and pitfalls of scholarly reliance on memory, is an example of writing that combines concerns about memory and hard fact.
