Abstract | Abstract This article, originally published in German in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (20-21 March 1998), describes the Gosteli Archive for Women's History in Switzerland, founded in 1982 by Marthe Gosteli, and lodged in a villa near Bern that was once her family home. The Gosteli Foundation assures the future of the archive. Kornelia Freitag, a visiting scholar at the Institute for Research on Women and Gender at Stanford University, and assistant professor of American studies at the University of Potsdam, Germany, is primarily responsible for the translation, with the assistance of women's historian Karen Offen.
