Wednesday, December 2, 2020 12:00 PM - Thu , December 3, 2020 12:00 PMOnline Event OnlineEvent Description American Red Cross is hosting "Born on the Battlefield" - a free lecture run in conjunction with the Institute for the Study of Human Rights, and open to students and professionals working in the human rights and humanitarian contexts. Born on the Battlefield is a three-hour, two-part intermediate level lecture on International Humanitarian Law (IHL). It introduces learners to key provisions of the Four Geneva Conventions and the Additional Protocols, the classifications of armed conflict, rules of engagement, organized armed groups and the concept of direct participation in hostilities. It presents a more in-depth discussion of the fundamental principles of IHL, protection of persons and property, and the use of distinctive emblems. While there are no prerequisites for the class, we do ask that attendees take Part 1 before completing Part 2.
