Columbia University’s Institute for the Study of Human Rights condemns the recent coup and widespread imprisonment of civilians and officials by the Tatmadaw. ISHR has been engaged in various human rights capacity-building efforts in Myanmar for a decade and has run a University Human Rights Education project in collaboration with Myanmar law schools and local civil society organizations for 6 years. We recognize the challenging and precarious nature of human rights work in Myanmar and express our concern for the rights of all persons and peoples in Myanmar.
