We are proud to announce the website relaunch of the African American Redress Network (AARN), an organization that supports local redress efforts through research, capacity-building, advocacy, and education. The AARN is a project in partnership with the Institute of Human Rights and the Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights Center. They worked long hours across borders and timezones to make this site more representative of AARN’s mission, unity, and drive towards addressing racial historical injustice. On their website, there are three main components that visitors can browse through: the Redress Map, the Stories, and the Resource Center. The map is still a work-in-progress, it extensively documents the redress efforts happening around us nationally. Search by specific historical injustice, historical era, or by state. The Stories page highlights the history and narratives of resistance important to our work. The Resource Center provides additional reparation literature, contact information for national and local organizations, and examples of government redress efforts.
Beyond all this, the AARN wants to emphasize that this work is for scholars, advocates, and students interested in racial justice and reparations work. They want this work to be a place where you can get educated, search for answers, and connect with wonderful organizations that are doing the groundwork.
Most importantly, the AARN is a network. It is about creating community and shedding light on what communities have done to remember a history of racial injustice. This website should be a reminder that there is work being done, and work to be done. They want to hear about your work and your input, so please join our great network of activists, academics, and policymakers.
