With Mariano Ruiz, LGBTQI+ Human Rights Defender

Mariano Ruiz is an LGBTIQ+ human rights defender based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. For the last five years, he had been assisting LGBTQI+ individuals who have sought safe haven in Argentina when their lives were threatened at home for their sexual orientation and gender identity. Currently, he is implementing a project with the Canadian-based NGO Rainbow Railroad offering information about alternative migration routes to LGBTIQ+ people from Central America who are on their way to the southern border of the USA. Mariano attended the 2019 Human Rights Advocates Program (HRAP) at ISHR.
Thiago Amparo is a professor at FGV Direito SP and FGV International Relations School, teaching courses on human rights, international law, and discrimination law. Since 2017, Amparo has taught courses on a wide range of issues, such as international public law, race, and gender in the judicial system, policing and the law, hate crimes, and related topics. Amparo is a lawyer, with a bachelor's degree from PUC-SP (Sao Paulo, Brazil), a master's degree in human rights (LLM) from the Central European University (Budapest, Hungary), and a Ph.D. from the same university. He is currently a Lemann Visiting Public Policy Fellow at ILAS.
