As a researcher and academic living and working in the Thailand-Burma borderlands, as well as the cities across Burma, Dave has worked on military rule and repression, as well as the complex interplay of refugees, narcotics, and civil conflict. In more recent years, his focus has been on child soldiers, internal displacement and refugees, and harassment of the Burmese political opposition. This lunchtime discussion will also touch upon emerging issues, including the removal of sanctions, peace talks, and the democratic transition, and the role of human rights in framing and address these issues.
