Created in 2008, the mission of New Alternatives is to increase the self-sufficiency of LGBT youth in need and to enable them to transition out of the shelter system and into stable adult lives. They provide case management, education services, life skills training, community-building recreational activities, opportunities for self-expression, and support services for HIV+ youth.
Throughout November and early December, volunteers set up donation boxes in the International Affairs Building and six campus dormitories. Thanks to the generous support of the Columbia community members the charity drive was a success. Several boxes of clothes, hygiene products, underwear, socks, and schools supplies were collected and brought to the shelter.
