| Abstract | The article examines the African American memories of slavery and Reconstruction that focuses on white schoolteachers and a white Jesus Christ. Contending that the collective memory of sacred whites performed a vital role in African American imaginations, the author emphasizes the significance of interracial interaction from slavery and Reconstruction in the early twentieth century. Studies of historical memory, specifically on slavery and the Civil War have shed light in every aspects of U.S. history.
