Abstract | Abstract Abstract: In 2008, Vancouver-based Theatre Replacement began the process of interviewing citizens in a series of small towns in Tennessee that shared the same name as famous cities elsewhere in the world. These interviews were heavily edited and then developed into a performance text for The Greatest Cities in the World, which opened March 2010. The performance focused on a number of highly provocative topics covered in the collected interviews including racism and violence. The following letter is addressed to the citizens of Tennessee and attempts to explain why certain choices were made in the editing of the interviews and creation of the work, choices that likely did not honour the memories shared by the citizens of Tennessee.
