Abstract

The article provides information comparing collective memory and historical memory on Halbwach's research work. Halbwach influence on the world was not felt immediately even if he was a major figure in history of sociology. His works pay tribute to three classic studies: Les cadres sociaux de la mÉmoire, La topographie lÉgendaire des Évangiles en Terre Sainte, and La mÉmoire collective which was the foundation for sociology of memory. He profiles the history of france through site or place of memory. He implies that there is a need for memory to make history.
