Abstract | Reviews numerous studies of social memory - the collective values and practices of a community, expressed through the creation and retention of certain recollections of the past - conducted in the second half of the 20th century and contends these studies are valuable tools for rethinking the concept of community. A theory of social memory is considered vital to the social history of Canada because it provides possibilities for community definition, cohesion, and survival. |
