On December 11th Independent UN human rights experts expressed serious concern over the arrest and charges brought against an indigenous leader, for peacefully protesting a political rally held last July at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, located on treaty lands of the Great Sioux Nation.

Columbia University has released an open online course, Indigenous Peoples’ Rights, to examine how Indigenous Peoples have been contesting norms, institutions and global debates in the past 50 years, and how they have been re-shaping and gradually decolonizing these systems at international and national levels. The self-paced course is free and open to all on edX.org with an optional paid verified certificate program.

Carla Fredericks, Columbia Law School alumna, scholar, lawyer and advocate for Indigenous Peoples’ rights in governance, development and global policy has been appointed as the new Executive Director of The Christensen Fund. Carla Fredericks currently serves as Clinical Professor and Director of the American Indian Law Clinic at Colorado Law.
